Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy describes how Vareeka collects, uses and shares your personal information when you visit or make a purchase from vareeka.com. By using the site or placing an order, you agree to the practices described here.
Personal information we collect
When you visit the site, we automatically receive certain information about your device and how you use the site. When you make a purchase or create an account, you give us information directly. Together this includes:
- Contact and order details — your name, email address, phone number, delivery and billing address, and the items you order.
- Account details — your email address or WhatsApp number and, if you set one, a securely stored password, along with any addresses you save. When you check out, we add the name, email address and delivery address you use there to your account, so you don't have to type them again.
- Checkout details, even if you don't finish — our checkout is provided by Shiprocket. Once you enter your mobile number there, we receive it along with the name, email address and delivery address you enter or that Shiprocket fills in from details you have saved with it, and we keep them even if you don't place the order, so we can recognise you and help you complete your purchase.
- Sign-in codes — if you sign in with a one-time code instead of a password, we send a six-digit code to your email address or, if you sign in with your WhatsApp number, to you on WhatsApp. We never store the code itself, only a scrambled form of it that cannot be read back, and it is discarded once you use it or after ten minutes, whichever comes first.
- Google sign-in — if you choose “Continue with Google”, Google confirms your email address to us and passes on your name and profile picture. We never see or receive your Google password. Google will also know that you have signed in to Vareeka. You can sign in with an email and password instead if you would rather not use it, and you can disconnect Vareeka at any time from your Google account’s security settings.
- Payment confirmation — confirmation that a payment succeeded. Card, UPI and netbanking details are entered directly with our payment partner and are never stored by us.
- Device and usage information — your device and browser type, IP address, approximate location, the pages and products you view, how long you spend on each page, what you add to your cart, and how you reached the site.
- Communications — messages you send us by email, WhatsApp or the contact form.
- Returns — if you return a piece, which pieces, the reason you choose and any note you add, the courier's collection and tracking details, the result of our quality check, and how and when you were refunded. For a Cash on Delivery order we also ask for the UPI ID you want your refund paid to. We use it only to pay that refund, and it is visible only to the member of our team who authorises refunds. To confirm a return is really yours, we send a six-digit code to your WhatsApp number or, if we have no number, your email; it is handled in the same way as a sign-in code.
- WhatsApp support assistant — when you message us on WhatsApp, an AI assistant provided by Anthropic reads your message and replies for us. It sees what you write, your first name, and only the order and product details needed to answer you; we do not pass it your phone number, email address or delivery address. Anthropic processes your messages on our behalf and on our instructions. For returns, refunds, complaints and anything the assistant cannot answer, a member of our team takes over and can read the conversation; what our team writes to you is not shown to the assistant.
- Reviews you write — the rating, headline and review text you submit for a piece you have bought, and a record of which order it came from. Reviews are published on the site, so please read the “Reviews you write” section below before you submit one.
- WhatsApp — we send your order confirmation and delivery updates on WhatsApp, to the WhatsApp number you have given us or, if you haven't given one, to the phone number on your account or your order. Giving us a separate WhatsApp number is optional. We may also send WhatsApp marketing, such as a reminder about pieces you looked at or left in your bag, to that WhatsApp number or to the phone number on your account. You can stop it at any time by replying STOP to any of our WhatsApp messages, or by writing to us at the privacy address on this page. Order and delivery updates still reach you after a STOP; to change or remove your WhatsApp number, write to us at the privacy address on this page.
How we use your personal information
We use the information we collect to:
- Process your order, take payment, arrange delivery and issue invoices.
- Keep you updated about your order, and handle returns, exchanges and refunds.
- Provide customer support and answer your questions.
- Publish the reviews you choose to write, so other shoppers can read them.
- Maintain your account, order history and saved addresses.
- Understand how the site is used so we can improve it, and screen for fraud or misuse.
- Send you marketing messages where you have asked us to, and measure whether our advertising works.
- Meet our legal, tax and accounting obligations.
There is a difference between the two kinds of message we send, and we keep it. Messages about something you have actually done — an order confirmation, a delivery update, a sign-in code, a reply to a question you asked us — are part of the service, and you receive them because you are using it. Marketing messages are separate — reminders about pieces you looked at or left in your bag, and offers. We may send those to the email address, WhatsApp number or phone number you have given us, and you can tell us to stop at any time — reply STOP on WhatsApp, use the unsubscribe link in an email, or write to us — without it affecting your orders.
Sharing your personal information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with the partners who help us run the shop, and only to the extent each one needs to do its job:
- Payment partners, to process your payment securely.
- Checkout partners, including Shiprocket Fastrr where you use its checkout, to collect your delivery details and complete your order.
- Logistics and courier partners, to deliver your order to you and to collect any piece you return.
- Communication providers, to send order confirmations, delivery updates and marketing messages — including Meta, whose WhatsApp Business service carries our WhatsApp messages and so receives your phone number and what each message says.
- Anthropic, which provides the AI assistant that answers your WhatsApp support messages — it receives what you write to the assistant, your first name, and the order and product details needed to answer you.
- Analytics and advertising providers, including Google and Meta, to understand how the site is used and to measure our advertising.
- Product analytics and error-monitoring providers, including PostHog and Sentry, so we can see when something on the site breaks and fix it.
- Google, separately from the above, if you choose to sign in with your Google account — so that it can confirm to us that the account is yours.
- Professional advisers and authorities, where we are required to share information by law, or to establish, exercise or defend a legal claim.
Some of these partners operate outside India, so your information may be processed outside the country. Where that happens we take reasonable steps to see that it stays protected.
Behavioural advertising
We use the information described above to show you advertising we believe may interest you, and to measure whether that advertising works. You can opt out of personalised advertising directly with the platforms:
- Google — through your Google Ads settings at adssettings.google.com.
- Meta (Facebook and Instagram) — through your ad preferences in each app.
- Across many participating companies at once — through the Digital Advertising Alliance opt-out portal at optout.aboutads.info.
Cookies
We use cookies and similar technologies to keep the site working — remembering your cart and keeping you signed in — and to understand how the site is used and measure our advertising. You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings, but some parts of the site, including your cart and checkout, may not work properly if you do.
Email engagement tracking
A marketing email from us may include a small tracking image and links that pass through our own server before reaching the site, so we can tell whether the email was opened or a link in it was clicked. We use this only to see whether a campaign was useful, never to build a profile of you beyond that. Order confirmations, delivery updates and other messages about something you have actually done are not tracked this way.
Opening images is often on by default in most email apps, so an open can be counted even if you never meant to signal that you read the message — treat open counts as a rough guide, not a precise record. Unsubscribing, as described below, stops this along with the emails themselves.
Diagnostics and session recording
To find and fix problems on the site — a checkout that fails, a button that does not respond — we record technical diagnostics about your visit. This includes the pages you open, actions such as adding to the cart, and any errors your browser reports, along with details of the device you are using: browser, operating system, screen and window size, and connection type.
We also record your general region, taken from your device’s timezone and language setting — for example that you are browsing from India. We do not look up your location from your IP address, and we do not ask your browser for your precise location.
Some visits are also recorded as a session replay: a reconstruction of what happened on screen, so we can see the sequence that led to a problem rather than guess at it. We do not record what you type — every form field, including card details, one-time codes and passwords, is hidden from the recording — and we hide the parts of a page that show your own details, such as your name, address, order history and the contents of your order.
This information is processed by our analytics and error-monitoring providers on our instructions, and is used to keep the site working. It is not used to advertise to you.
Reviews you write
If you have bought a piece from us, you can rate and review it from your order page. Reviews are optional, and nothing about your order depends on writing one.
- Reviews are public. Once published, your rating and anything you write can be read by anyone visiting the site, including people who are not signed in.
- You are shown by your first name and last initial — for example, “Priya S.” If we do not have your first name, your review appears as “A Vareeka customer”. We never publish your full name, email address, phone number or delivery address alongside a review.
- Only verified buyers can review. We check that the piece was bought on your account and delivered before you can rate it, which is why a review cannot be left for something you have not received.
- Reviews appear on the site immediately when you submit or edit them — we do not read or approve them first, and we will not edit your words to change what you meant.
- Please leave your address, phone number and any other personal details out of the review text. Anything you type there publishes straight away, and there is no review step to catch it first.
- You can change your review at any time from your order page. To have one removed, write to us at contact@vareeka.com with your order number — this is a manual request on our side rather than a self-service button, so please allow a few days.
Your choices
You can decide how much of this applies to you:
- Write to us at contact@vareeka.com to ask us to stop using your information for analytics, and we will action it.
- Opt out of personalised advertising directly with Google and Meta, using the links in the Behavioural advertising section above.
- Block or delete cookies through your browser settings, keeping in mind that the cart and checkout need some of them to work.
- Unsubscribe from marketing emails using the link in any message we send you.
Your rights
Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 you have the right to ask us for a summary of the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or completed if it is wrong, and to have it erased. You may withdraw consent you have given, and you may nominate another person to exercise these rights on your behalf if you die or are unable to act.
To make a request, write to us at contact@vareeka.com. Please write from the email address on your order so that we can be sure the request is really yours — we may ask for more before we act on it, because giving your information to the wrong person would be the greater harm. If you are not satisfied with how we have handled your request, you may complain to the Data Protection Board of India.
Data retention
We keep your order and transaction records for as long as Indian law requires us to keep them. Other information is kept only for as long as it is needed for the purposes described in this policy. If you close your account we delete your profile, apart from the records we are legally required to retain.
Security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information against loss, misuse and unauthorised access. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we work to protect your information and to review how we do it.
Children
The site is not intended for children under 18 and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. If you believe a child has given us personal information, write to contact@vareeka.com and we will delete it.
Links to other websites
The site may link to websites we do not operate. This policy does not cover them, and we are not responsible for their privacy practices. We would encourage you to read the privacy policy of any site you visit from ours.
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time — to reflect changes to our practices, or for operational, legal or regulatory reasons. The version on this page is always the current one, so please do check back.
